A 63-year-old man suspected of driving while intoxicated was killed after heading the wrong way on Roosevelt Avenue Friday night, triggering a collision near Loop 410. Luis Martinez was taken to a hospital but died about seven hours later.
The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. near Loop 410 and Roosevelt Avenue, according to KABB's report. San Antonio police said Martinez was driving northbound in the southbound lanes when the other driver tried to avoid him by switching lanes. Martinez's vehicle moved into that same lane, and the two cars collided.
Authorities said Martinez showed signs of intoxication after the crash. The initial account did not say whether the other driver was injured, and police have not publicly explained what led Martinez onto the wrong side of the roadway.
Loop 410 Has Seen Another Deadly Wrong-Way Crash
The fatal collision is the second deadly wrong-way crash reported on Loop 410 this summer. Two drivers were killed in a separate June crash near Military Drive after police received reports of a wrong-way vehicle, as detailed in Hoodline's earlier coverage.
