A North Harris County business disturbance turned into a terroristic-threat arrest after a man who had been asked to leave allegedly threatened to come back and shoot the place up. Caleb Brett Mendez was arrested and booked into the county jail.
According to a Tuesday update from Constable Mark Herman, deputies responded July 25 to a business in the 4900 block of FM 2920. Staff had asked Mendez to leave, and deputies reportedly believed he was intoxicated before the alleged threat was made.
The office said Mendez was arrested, booked into Harris County Jail and charged with terroristic threat, with bond set at $100 through Harris County Court at Law No. 1. Its account said he allegedly told staff he would “return and shoot the place up,” though the public update did not identify the business or describe any weapon.
What The Texas Terroristic-Threat Charge Means
Texas Penal Code §22.07 defines a terroristic threat as threatening an offense involving violence against a person or property with one of several specified intents, including causing an emergency response or placing someone in fear of imminent serious bodily injury, according to the Texas Legislature. The charge concerns the alleged threat itself, and Mendez is presumed innocent unless prosecutors prove the case in court.
The case surfaced publicly 10 days after the July 25 arrest, when the constable’s office posted its account on Aug. 4. The notice did not report injuries, identify the business or provide a court outcome beyond the listed bond and charge.
