Silverado Resort in Napa has unveiled Matchplay Kitchen + Bar, a newly renovated restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks to overnight guests and local residents alike. The restaurant replaces the resort's former dining venue, The Grill, and now stands as the centerpiece of Silverado's food and beverage program, with three distinct dining spaces spread across a main dining room, an elevated lounge and bar, and an expanded patio.
According to the Napa Valley Register, the main dining room opens onto an expanded patio overlooking Silverado's North Course, while the lounge and bar area features dart boards and shuffleboard alongside the venue's newly renovated interior. The patio itself includes fire pits and year-round seating, giving diners multiple ways to take in the resort's 300-acre grounds. A semi-private dining room can accommodate groups of up to 12 people, according to the same report.
A Menu Built Around a 100-Mile Radius
Executive Chef Patrick Prager, who leads Matchplay's culinary direction, says he builds dishes around seasonal ingredients from local farms, purveyors and the resort's own gardens, per the Napa Valley Register's reporting. Silverado sources ingredients from within 100 miles of the resort, according to Silverado Resort. Prager, whose menu changes with the seasons, told the outlet he aims to create food that feels elevated but welcoming.
Lunch at Matchplay, served weekdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., includes an asparagus and burrata salad, ahi tuna niçoise, duck confit fritters, wild mushroom pappardelle and grilled flat iron steak frites. Dinner, offered daily from 4 to 9 p.m., features thousand-layer potatoes with caviar, Dungeness crab cakes, pan-seared scallops, a double-cut pork chop, handmade Parisian gnocchi and spring pea agnolotti. Breakfast runs Monday through Friday from 7 to 11 a.m. with yogurt parfaits, steel-cut oats, fresh juices, steak and eggs, eggs Benedict, pancakes and specialty toasts, while weekend brunch — served Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. — brings out strawberry shortcake French toast, lemon ricotta waffles, a pressed butternut squash Cubano and a Wagyu short rib burger.
Prager's farm-to-table approach traces back to a 6,000-square-foot organic Chef's Garden Silverado established in 2024 under his direction, growing heirloom tomatoes, peppers, citrus, herbs and edible flowers that supply Matchplay and the resort's broader dining program, according to TravelAge West. The resort also runs weekly chef-led garden tours and seasonal family-style garden brunches built around the same produce, the outlet reports. Prager brings more than two decades of Northern California culinary experience to the role, including past training under chefs Michael Mina, Wolfgang Puck, Bradley Ogden and Traci Des Jardins, according to JustLuxe.
Cocktails, Locals Night and a New Bar Program
Matchplay's beverage program emphasizes California wines, local craft beers and cocktails made with seasonal Napa Valley ingredients, the Napa Valley Register reports. Drink offerings include a blueberry lavender spritz, a Meyer lemon limoncello Collins, and a barrel-aged pecan old-fashioned, alongside spirit-free cocktails built using juice clarification and house-made shrubs. The bar menu will change throughout the year with new cocktail additions, per the outlet's reporting.
Silverado hosts Locals Night every Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m., offering 20% off sparkling wine and $2 oysters — a deal aimed squarely at Napa County residents rather than just resort guests. Matchplay accepts reservations through OpenTable and is open to the public. Jay Rocha said the restaurant's opening is part of Silverado's broader effort to enhance the guest experience through renovations and updated amenities, according to the Napa Valley Register.
Part of a Larger Resort Overhaul
The renovated interior, designed by Smith-Firestone Associates, replaced the venue's former traditional golf-clubhouse look with warm wood finishes, tartan textiles, cozy booth seating and a modern bar setup, according to JustLuxe. The design aims to balance approachable luxury with the resort's historic Napa Valley character, the outlet notes.
Matchplay's debut lands within a broader, multi-year modernization effort at Silverado. Property manager Peregrine Hospitality has committed more than $14 million toward restoring guest rooms, event spaces, spa amenities and dining venues since KSL Capital Partners and Arcade Capital purchased the 300-acre property in 2022, according to KSL Capital. That investment push also includes an 11,358-square-foot outdoor event pavilion and lounge in the resort's oak-lined Grove area, which the Napa County Planning Commission approved in November, as Hoodline previously reported.
A Historic Property With Golf Roots
Silverado's 300-plus-acre estate was founded in 1869 by Union Civil War General John Franklin Miller, and the original Italianate mansion, known as La Vergne, still serves as the resort's white-pillared lobby and Mansion Bar today, according to Hospitality Net. The resort takes its name from the nearby 19th-century Silverado quicksilver mine, the outlet notes. As Napa County's fifth largest employer, Silverado supports hundreds of regional hospitality, service and recreation jobs across its 345 condominium suites, golf courses, spa and dining venues, per Moovit.
Golf remains central to Silverado's identity even as its dining program modernizes. World Golf Hall of Famer Johnny Miller, who grew up along the resort's 11th hole, co-owned Silverado starting in 2010 and personally oversaw redesigns of both championship courses before selling to current ownership in 2022, according to Forbes. The outlet also notes Silverado's courses are famous for the Burgerdog, a custom-grilled rectangular hamburger served on a hot dog bun and popularized by Miller, cooked to order on the 10th hole of the South Course and 6th hole of the North Course. Though Silverado's PGA Tour Fall event concluded after 2025, the PGA Tour is set to return professional tournament golf to the resort's North Course in July 2027 under new sponsor Sompo, as reported by SFGATE.
