Extreme Heat Warning Covers The Weekend
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the Las Vegas Valley and surrounding parts of southern Nevada through 8 p.m. Sunday, August 9. Overnight lows will offer little relief, staying near 88 degrees Thursday night and reaching around 90 to 91 degrees Friday and Saturday nights, according to the National Weather Service.
Afternoon winds will generally remain light to moderate, mostly between 5 and 10 mph, though gusts could become more noticeable later in the day. The combination of extreme daytime heat and unusually warm nights is expected to keep heat risk elevated across the region.
Heat Eases Slightly Next Week
Sunday should stay sunny with a high near 113 degrees before temperatures begin a slow retreat. Monday, August 10, is forecast to reach about 110 degrees and bring a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between late morning and late afternoon, followed by mostly sunny skies and highs near 107 to 109 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday.

Residents should drink plenty of fluids, seek air conditioning, limit strenuous activity and check on relatives and neighbors during the warning. The weather service also cautions people never to leave children or pets in unattended vehicles, where temperatures can become lethal within minutes.
