Pittsburgh spent Saturday getting gloriously gooey as the city welcomed its first large-scale convention dedicated to slime, sensory play and creative arts. The inaugural SlimeCityCon turned the David L. Lawrence Convention Center into a hands-on playground where making a mess was basically the point. The two-day event continues Sunday with a shorter final session.
According to CBS Pittsburgh, attendees made slime, shopped among vendors, took part in giveaways and met creators. The event offered something a little different from Pittsburgh’s usual convention fare: less sitting in a chair, more poking, stretching and squishing whatever was on the table.
Hands-On Slime Took Center Stage
SlimeCityCon’s official event FAQ describes the gathering as an interactive convention built around slime, creativity and sensory fun. Featured activities included a DIY Slime Lab, vendor booths, a texture touch bar and opportunities to meet creators, with guests able to customize slime using different textures, colors and add-ins.
The organizer scheduled VIP entry for 9 a.m. and general admission for 10 a.m., with Saturday’s show ending at 5 p.m. Sunday’s session runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., giving fans one last chance to load up on supplies, experiment with new textures and leave downtown with something colorful stuck to their hands.
A New Kind Of Convention Stop For Downtown
The David L. Lawrence Convention Center listed SlimeCityCon on its public events calendar for the weekend. For Pittsburgh, the gathering added a distinctly squishy entry to the city’s event lineup, with the main attraction not a stage spectacle but a room full of colorful mixtures waiting to be stretched, molded and remixed.
