Seattle woke Thursday to smoky skies and temperatures around 63 degrees, but the calm start will give way to a sunny and unusually hot afternoon. The high is expected to reach about 83 degrees, with the warmest stretch arriving during the late afternoon.
A Heat Advisory remains in effect through 10 p.m. Thursday, while an Air Quality Alert covers smoke-affected areas through the afternoon. The National Weather Service Seattle office says light winds could allow smoke and haze to linger before stronger onshore flow helps clear some of it tonight.
Sunny Thursday, Hotter Friday
Thursday will stay dry with northwest winds generally between 1 and 5 mph, increasing modestly during the afternoon. Friday looks even warmer, with a sunny high near 86 degrees and an overnight low around 61.
Saturday will remain mostly sunny with a high near 82, followed by a cooler but still dry Sunday and Monday near 77 degrees. No meaningful rainfall is expected through Wednesday, when the forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high around 75.
Smoke And Heat Call For Extra Caution
Residual wildfire smoke may produce localized haze and reduced visibility Thursday, even as skies turn brighter. People who are sensitive to heat or smoke should limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water and use filtered indoor air when possible.
The city’s Seattle heat safety resources page recommends using air-conditioned public spaces or cooling locations when needed. Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, and call 911 for signs of heat stroke such as confusion, loss of consciousness or hot skin without sweating.
Cooler Weather Arrives This Weekend
Temperatures should ease gradually after Friday as onshore flow strengthens. Overnight lows will generally fall into the upper 50s or lower 60s, making for more comfortable mornings even as dry conditions continue to raise fire-weather concerns in parts of the region.
