An 85-year-old man was last seen early Saturday in South Los Angeles, prompting a Silver Alert from California authorities. Officials say he may be on foot, and police are asking anyone who spots him to call 911 immediately.
The California Highway Patrol's CHP - Alerts account identified the man as Clarence Gilbert and said he was last seen around 12:30 a.m. near W. 74th Street and Main Street. Gilbert is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 195 pounds, with black hair and black eyes; he was wearing a plaid button-up shirt, blue jeans and black boots.
Alert Activated On Behalf Of LAPD
The California Highway Patrol activated the alert on behalf of the Los Angeles Police Department. The CHP says Silver Alerts are used for missing older adults or people with developmental or cognitive impairments who are considered at risk, when investigators believe public information could help with a safe recovery, according to the agency's alert guidance.
Anyone who sees Gilbert should call 911 and provide his location and identifying details. The alert says Gilbert is believed to be on foot, so residents in the surrounding South Los Angeles area may want to remain especially alert for someone matching the description.
