A 42-year-old South Lake Tahoe man is recovering in stable condition after he was stabbed by a stranger outside the Whole Foods Market on Lake Tahoe Boulevard, in what police describe as a completely unprovoked attack. According to CBS Sacramento, South Lake Tahoe police officers responded to reports of a stabbing outside the grocery store and found the victim already being helped by bystanders at the scene. The suspect had already fled by the time officers arrived, and police say the teenager and the man he stabbed had never met before the attack.
The rapid response from South Lake Tahoe Police Department officers led to the suspect being located and detained on foot in the Ski Run Boulevard area, within about five minutes of the initial 6:36 p.m. call, as reported by South Tahoe Now. The teenager was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder. Detectives and police have characterized the stabbing as unprovoked, and the case remains under investigation.
