St. Pete’s EDGE District is getting a four-day art takeover this fall, with storefronts, sidewalks and neighborhood businesses set to join the gallery floor. The inaugural Booker Creek Arts Festival will bring a statewide juried competition, live demonstrations and family programming to the district in November.
The festival runs Thursday, November 12, through Sunday, November 15, and is expected to spread across more than a dozen venues. As reported by I Love the Burg, the free event will feature hundreds of artists, turning the EDGE into a district-wide showcase rather than a single park-based art fair.
This won’t be a fenced-in festival with one crowded row of booths. According to the Booker Creek Arts Festival, participating restaurants, cafés, boutiques, shops, hotels and residential buildings will help create a walkable living gallery, with the final venue lineup still being assembled.
Florida Artists Will Compete For Up To $50,000
The competition is the festival’s main hook, with juried artists from across Florida vying for up to $50,000 in awards. The official artist call also lists live mural painting, glass blowing, dance, music, children’s activities and a People’s Choice Award shaped by visitor votes.
Visitors will be able to meet participating creators, learn how their work is made and purchase original pieces directly from them. The format gives the EDGE’s usual restaurant-and-retail crawl a more colorful itinerary, with art woven into the places people already visit.
The event is being framed as both an arts showcase and a neighborhood economic play. The EDGE Business District Association, which presents the festival, says its mission is to connect artists, audiences and local businesses while highlighting the role of arts and culture in building vibrant communities.
Artists Have Until Next Friday To Apply
Artists interested in participating still have time to enter, but the application window closes next Friday. The festival’s official call requires applicants to be at least 18, Florida residents for six consecutive months, and ready to submit three artworks with a $25 entry fee; artists do not have to be present during the festival.
Festival Details Are Still Taking Shape
Organizers have not yet released a complete schedule, parking plan or final list of participating venues. The festival’s venue page says those details are still developing, so visitors should expect more specifics as November approaches.
If the organizers can fill the district as planned, Booker Creek could give St. Pete a new kind of arts weekend: less one destination, more a city-sized gallery hop. For the EDGE, that means four days when the neighborhood’s businesses, public spaces and creative community all become part of the exhibition.
