A new secondhand shopping option opened in Shively on Tuesday, and it's stocked with more than bargain furniture and clothing racks. St. Vincent de Paul cut the ribbon on its fourth Louisville-area thrift store at the Shively Center plaza, a space where every sale helps fund food, shelter and housing programs for families across Jefferson County.
The ceremony, held Tuesday, featured remarks from St. Vincent de Paul Louisville CEO and Executive Director Jennifer Clark and CFO Michael Spurlock, according to the organization. As WDRB reports, the store sits at 4420 Dixie Highway near the I-264 interchange, giving Shively shoppers a nearby source for affordable clothing, furniture and household items.
The station notes the new location joins three existing St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores in the Louisville area — at Hikes Point, Bittersweet Shopping Center and Dorsey Plaza — making Shively the charity's fourth outpost. Per the same report, the Shively store is open Tuesday through Saturday and closed Sundays and Mondays.
One Key Difference From Other Locations
Shoppers hoping to drop off donations in Shively will need to look elsewhere. Unlike St. Vincent de Paul's other three Louisville thrift stores, the Shively Center location does not accept on-site donation drop-offs, according to St. Vincent de Paul Louisville. Donors can instead bring items to the Hikes Point, Dorsey Plaza or Preston Highway stores, or schedule a free home pick-up.
Purchases made at the new store go toward helping St. Vincent de Paul assist families dealing with financial hardship, homelessness and food insecurity, the station's report states. That mission has taken on added urgency this year: the organization reported a nearly 40% year-over-year increase in visits to its campus food pantry, while its Open Hand Kitchen served roughly 14,500 meals in July alone — a 30% jump from the previous month.

Its Open Hand Kitchen, established on South Jackson Street in 1983, serves lunch and dinner for anyone in need, with no questions asked, per JustServe. The kitchen serves more than 170,000 meals each year.
On its Preston Street campus, the charity also runs Ozanam Inn. For Shively residents and shoppers across Louisville, the new Dixie Highway store offers a straightforward way to support that network — one secondhand purchase at a time.
