According to the National Weather Service, storms are most likely before 11 a.m., followed by a lower chance of showers and thunderstorms through about 2 p.m. The forecast includes a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms, while brief flooding remains possible in low-lying city streets and areas with poor drainage.
Storms Ease Before The Afternoon
Temperatures should climb from the low 70s this morning to the mid-70s around noon and near 80 by late afternoon. Winds will turn southerly, then southwesterly, at roughly 6 to 10 mph, while rain chances fall sharply after 2 p.m. and partly sunny to sunny conditions take over.
The morning commute and early outdoor plans face the greatest disruption, especially during any sudden downpour or thunderstorm. Storms are expected to move quickly, but New Yorkers should head indoors when thunder is audible and avoid flooded streets rather than testing whether a puddle is actually a small pond.
No watches, warnings or advisories are currently listed for New York, but the storm threat is enough to keep umbrellas and flexible plans close at hand. Sunday night should turn mostly clear, with temperatures falling to around 67 degrees.
Cooler, Calmer Start To The Week
Monday brings sunshine for much of the day, followed by a chance of showers and thunderstorms between about 2 and 5 p.m. The high should reach 78 degrees, with a low near 65 Monday night as skies clear again.
Tuesday and Wednesday look quieter and sunnier, with highs near 78 and 81 degrees, respectively. More unsettled weather is expected Thursday and Friday, when shower and thunderstorm chances return and highs rise into the low 80s.
