A 46-year-old man died Sunday after firefighters pulled him from a Stow house fire that erupted over the weekend, ending a rescue effort that began with crews confronting heavy smoke and flames. The victim was identified as Joe Vizmeg by the Summit County medical examiner.
Firefighters were called Saturday to a residence in the 5200 block of Stow Road and found heavy fire and smoke when they arrived, according to cleveland.com. Crews entered the home, located Vizmeg on the second floor, removed him, and took him to Akron General Medical Center's Stow emergency room.
Cause Of Stow Fire Remains Unknown
Vizmeg died the following day, officials said. Authorities have not released what sparked the blaze, and the investigation remains underway.
The city's Stow Fire/EMS division says the department provides emergency response around the clock and urges residents to call 911 during fires or other emergencies. No additional details about the investigation were immediately released.
