A Sunday afternoon crash ended with a 51-year-old man dead after his Nissan Rogue veered off the Grand Parkway, crossed an embankment and landed upside down in a retention pond in northwest Harris County.
The crash happened near Grand Parkway and Northcrest Drive, close to an Amazon facility, according to ABC13 Houston. Witnesses said the SUV drifted off the roadway before going airborne and plunging into the pond.
Harris County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Beau Beaty said first responders performed CPR on the driver. He was pronounced dead at a hospital, officials said.
The initial account from Harris County Precinct 4 indicated that the driver had escaped the vehicle safely. The sheriff's office later reported that the man died, prompting an update to the earlier information.
