The National Weather Service Tampa Bay puts the chance of rain near 60%, with storms possible before 2 p.m., a brief chance between 2 and 3 p.m., and more scattered activity afterward. Most spots could receive between a quarter and half an inch of rain, while southwest winds around 5 to 10 mph may turn gusty near thunderstorms.
Afternoon Storms Could Complicate Plans
Even with breaks of partial sunshine, downpours can arrive quickly and drop a lot of water in a short time. Lightning, sudden wind gusts and temporary ponding on roads could create headaches for drivers, outdoor workers and anyone trying to squeeze in a park or beach visit.
Farther north, a flood watch remains in effect through 8 p.m. Monday for Levy, Citrus and Hernando counties, where heavier rain could create more serious flooding concerns. Tampa is outside that watch, but localized downpours can still make low-lying roads messy.
Tonight Stays Muggy With More Storms
Showers and thunderstorms remain scattered Monday night, with mostly cloudy skies, a low around 77°F and a 40% chance of rain. Tuesday looks similar, reaching about 89°F with another round of scattered storms and a 50% rain chance.
Beachgoers Face Dangerous Rip Currents
A Rip Current Statement is in effect through 8 p.m. Monday for beaches in Pinellas, coastal Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte and Lee counties. Swimmers should stay near lifeguards, and anyone caught in a rip current should float, avoid swimming against it and move parallel to shore if possible.
Heat And Rain Increase Midweek
Temperatures climb to around 92°F Wednesday and 93°F Thursday, when widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected after 2 p.m. Friday through Sunday should stay near 92°F, with rain chances ranging from 60% to 80% and the most widespread storm coverage currently expected Saturday.
