Tampa was clear and nearly calm early Wednesday, with temperatures around 80°F and humidity above 90%. By afternoon, sunshine will push temperatures near 94°F while the heat index climbs as high as 108.
A Heat Advisory is in effect from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday across Tampa and much of southwest and west-central Florida, according to the National Weather Service. The advisory warns that hot temperatures and high humidity could cause heat-related illnesses, especially during the afternoon.
Sunny Skies, Light Winds And Serious Heat
Wednesday will stay sunny with northwest winds between 0 and 8 mph, and only a 4% chance of rain. The lack of showers means outdoor plans are unlikely to be rained out, but there will be little relief from the heat during the middle of the day.
Tonight will be mostly clear with a low around 77°F, although the heat index could still reach 101. Thursday looks nearly identical, with sunny skies, a high near 95°F and another heat index around 106.
Storm Chances Return Friday
The forecast turns slightly more unsettled Friday, when scattered showers and thunderstorms could develop after 2 p.m. Temperatures will still reach about 96°F, and the chance of precipitation rises to 40%.
Saturday and Sunday remain hot, with highs near 96°F and isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms possible each day. Monday and Tuesday continue the same pattern, with highs in the mid-90s and storm chances increasing slightly Tuesday afternoon.
Heat Safety Remains The Main Concern
The National Weather Service Tampa Bay office recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air conditioning when possible and limiting time in direct sun. Residents should also check on relatives, neighbors, children and pets during the hottest part of the day.
