Tampa is starting Monday clear and humid, with temperatures near 77 degrees before the heat ramps up toward the low 90s. By afternoon, the heat index could reach 104 as thunderstorms move into the forecast.
Afternoon Storms Could Bring Heavy Rain
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected after 2 p.m. Monday, with a 50% chance of rain and storms potentially lasting into the evening. The National Weather Service says the strongest storms could produce frequent lightning, gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall that may briefly overwhelm poor-drainage areas.
Monday night will stay warm, partly cloudy and unsettled, with a low around 75 and a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall could total between a quarter-inch and half-inch in some spots.
Storm Chances Stay High Through Sunday
Tuesday will look much like Monday, with a high near 91, a heat index around 103 and another round of afternoon thunderstorms. The wettest stretch arrives Wednesday and Thursday, when the official forecast puts rain chances at 80% and calls for widespread storms at times.
Friday through Sunday will remain hot, with highs from 90 to 92 and daily rain chances around 70%. Overnight lows will hover in the mid-70s, offering Tampa little relief from the heat and humidity.
