Barton Creek Square in Austin and Lakeline Mall in Cedar Park are about to get a new kind of neighbor: a blind-box and claw-machine arcade called Teso X, marking the specialty toy brand's first stores anywhere in Texas. Construction on both locations is slated to begin October 30 and wrap up by January 30, 2027.
State filing records show the Austin store will occupy 3,780 square feet in Suite N10 at Barton Creek Square, with an estimated renovation cost of $180,000, according to Zabalist. The Cedar Park store, located inside Suite K of Lakeline Mall in the Austin suburb, will involve a smaller 1,314-square-foot interior remodel, as reported by Coming Soon Texas. Teso Group had previously been building its first Austin-area location at The Linc on North IH-35 Frontage Road, according to the Austin Business Journal, and the new mall filings show the company's Central Texas plans have since taken shape at Barton Creek Square and Lakeline Mall instead.
Teso X is described as an Asian-inspired collectible toy store and arcade, stocked with anime merchandise, claw machines, and viral mystery collectibles sold in the blind-box format that has become a global retail phenomenon. As MySA reports, the brand currently operates just two locations, both in New York, and has no standalone stores anywhere in Texas yet — making the Austin-area duo a genuine first for the state.
A Bigger Texas Footprint Already In Place
Teso X is a spinoff of Teso Life, the company's larger general Asian lifestyle department store concept, and Teso Group already has a substantial presence in the state through that flagship brand. The company operates six Teso Life department stores across Texas and has opened locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Houston, and San Antonio, per the same MySA report. Teso Group first planted its Texas roots in Carrollton in 2020 before opening a second North Texas department store in Frisco in October 2023, according to Community Impact.
The Teso Life build-out has kept rolling through 2026, with the company registering a 22,800-square-foot store in El Paso and prepping a second San Antonio site at The Forum, according to reporting from MySA. Hoodline previously covered the booming Asian retail sector in Texas, which has helped set the stage for Teso Group's newer, smaller-format arcade concept to follow.
North Texas Gets In On The Expansion Too
The Austin-area push isn't happening in isolation. A separate state filing shows Teso Group is simultaneously expanding Teso X into North Texas, registering a 2,062-square-foot store in Garland on August 21, with an estimated $150,000 renovation budget, according to Zabalist. Garland sits in Dallas County, where Teso Group already has an established footprint through its larger Teso Life stores, suggesting the Teso X rollout is a multi-metro strategy rather than an Austin-only experiment.
Teso Group's corporate profile indicates the retailer was founded in New York in 2017 and now operates six proprietary brands, including Teso Life and Teso X, with a stated goal of expanding to more than 300 stores nationwide by 2030, according to company materials from TESO Group. The Teso X spinoff itself is fresh off launching its flagship Manhattan store on Canal Street in New York City's Chinatown in late July, per the same company announcement, after debuting as a smaller boutique concept in Flushing, Queens.
Betting On Malls And The Blind Box Boom
Both Central Texas properties chosen for Teso X — Barton Creek Square and Lakeline Mall — are owned and operated by Simon Property Group, according to property records cited on Wikipedia. That mall-based site selection lines up with a broader industry trend: the global blind box toy market is projected to reach $20.53 billion in 2026, growing at a 10 percent compound annual rate through 2035, according to Business Research Insights.
Teso X will be entering a market already crowded with competition. Pop Mart, the company widely credited with pioneering the designer toy blind box format in China before entering the U.S. in late 2021, had expanded to more than 45 U.S. retail locations as of January, according to market analysis from SmartBuy. Whether Teso X can carve out its own following among Austin-area shoppers hunting for gashapon claws and mystery collectibles should become clearer once its two mall storefronts open their doors early next year.
