Three separate armed robberies struck gas stations along the Interstate 15 corridor in Hesperia and Victorville within roughly 22 minutes early Thursday morning, sending deputies scrambling between crime scenes as investigators worked to determine whether the crimes were connected.
The first robbery began at approximately 3:37 a.m. at the Circle K in the 11400 block of Fashion Court in Hesperia, according to VVNG. Hesperia Police Department Public Information Officer Lyndsi Garrett said the adult male suspect first attempted to purchase two coffees before brandishing a black handgun at the cashier and demanding money from the register. He then fled in a black SUV, and the suspect was described as wearing a black hoodie and black pants. That investigation remains ongoing.
Minutes later, deputies responded to a reported armed robbery at an Arco gas station in the 16000 block of D Street in Victorville, per the outlet's report. Inside, a male suspect brandished a black firearm, demanded that the employee hand over all of the money, took cash from the register, and fled the area in an SUV.
A Third Incident at a Nearby Maverik
A third robbery was reported at a Maverik gas station in the 12000 block of Mariposa Road in Victorville, where deputies also responded on the same morning. According to Victorville Police Department Public Information Officer Socorro Cuevas, a male adult brandished a weapon inside the store. That suspect left without paying for merchandise and fled in a vehicle before deputies arrived on scene.
Authorities have not announced whether the three robberies, which occurred at gas stations a short distance from Interstate 15, are connected to a single suspect or crew. All three investigations remain ongoing, and the outlet's report does not indicate any arrests at this time.
Same Arco Saw Violence a Year Earlier
The Arco station targeted on D Street has been the site of trouble before. On August 5, 2025, almost exactly one year before this week's robbery spree, an employee at that same location was physically assaulted by suspects during a late-night theft after refusing to sell alcohol past legal hours, VVNG reported at the time.
Why the Freeway Corridor Keeps Drawing Robbers
Both cities contract their police services to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, meaning the same overall agency is managing the response and investigation across the Hesperia-Victorville jurisdictional line, according to background compiled from the City of Victorville. Hesperia has contracted with the sheriff's department since incorporating in 1988, while Victorville has done so since 1962.
Interstate 15 functions as a primary high-volume regional arterial linking the Inland Empire and High Desert to Nevada, and roadside commercial hubs sitting immediately next to freeway off-ramps have long been considered vulnerable to rapid getaway crimes, according to the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority. That geography may help explain why gas stations clustered near Fashion Court, Mariposa Road, and D Street have repeatedly turned up in local robbery reports.
New Drone Technology Could Aid the Search
Victorville may have new tools to work with. In April, the city fully launched its Drones as First Responder program, integrating automated drone launch sites with 123 automated license plate readers, ShotSpotter technology, and the police department's Real-Time Information Center to track suspect vehicle routes and assess firearm threats, per the City of Victorville. Victorville is the first contract city in San Bernardino County to deploy the technology, which could prove useful in identifying the SUVs described in at least two of Thursday's robberies.
Legal Stakes for Any Suspects Identified
Commercial robberies committed against business employees fall under California Penal Code Sections 211 and 213 as second-degree felony robbery, carrying state prison sentences of up to five years per count and counting as violent felony strikes, according to legal guidance from Cron Israels and Stark. If investigators determine a firearm was personally used in any of the robberies, California's so-called 10-20-Life law under Penal Code Section 12022.53 adds a mandatory, consecutive 10-year state prison enhancement on top of the base sentence, per Eisner Gorin LLP. Firearm enhancements must be served consecutively, with suspects required to complete 85% of that time before becoming eligible for parole.
Countywide, San Bernardino County's violent crime rate rose 33% between 2023 and 2024, even as the county's robbery rate saw an average annual decrease of 2% from 2020 through 2024, according to San Bernardino County Community Indicators data drawn from state Department of Justice records. The county has previously used targeted funding through initiatives like Operation Smash and Grab, which Hoodline reported on in 2024, to target commercial theft and robbery networks operating across Hesperia, Victorville, Apple Valley, and other High Desert cities.
No suspect descriptions beyond those released for the Circle K and Arco robberies have been made public, and it remains unclear whether physical surveillance or license plate reader data has produced a specific vehicle match.
