Three people were injured, two of them seriously, after a stabbing broke out inside a home in Donelson early Monday morning. Metro Nashville police say officers were called to the 2400 block of Springview Drive around 5 a.m. after reports that an argument inside the house had turned violent.
According to WKRN News 2, the stabbing stemmed directly from an argument taking place inside the home. Two people reportedly suffered serious injuries, while a third person reportedly sustained only minor injuries. Authorities had not released additional details as of the station's report, including the identities of those involved or their current medical conditions.
Detectives from the Metro Nashville Police Department's Domestic Violence Division responded to the scene to investigate, the outlet's report notes. That specialized unit is tasked with handling domestic disputes, physical assaults, and intimate partner violence across Davidson County, according to background from the Nashville Coalition Against Domestic Violence, which also notes the unit works alongside court-based victim advocates to assist affected household members.
Why a Specialized Unit Is Leading the Case
The involvement of domestic violence detectives, rather than a standard patrol follow-up, suggests investigators are treating the relationship between those involved as central to the case. Donelson falls under the jurisdiction of Metro Nashville's Hermitage Precinct, headquartered at 3701 James Kay Lane, which handles neighborhood patrols and initial emergency response in the area before turning specialized cases over to investigative units, per Nashville.gov.
Donelson itself is a suburban Davidson County neighborhood about 10 miles east of downtown Nashville, situated near Nashville International Airport and made up largely of established single-family homes and residential subdivisions, according to Visit Nashville TN.
Legal Stakes if a Suspect Is Identified
Tennessee law treats intentional aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon, or one resulting in serious bodily injury, as a Class C felony, carrying a potential sentence of 3 to 15 years in prison and fines of up to $10,000, per Tennessee Code Annotated § 39-13-102 as outlined by Justia Law. State statute also directs officers responding to domestic abuse calls to identify a primary aggressor when probable cause exists, generally discouraging dual arrests unless both parties are found equally responsible, under Tennessee Code Annotated § 36-3-619 as detailed by FindLaw. Anyone arrested on a domestic assault charge in Tennessee is subject to a mandatory 12-hour holding period before becoming eligible for bail, under TCA § 40-11-150, according to Justia Law.
Resources and Recent Local History
Davidson County residents affected by domestic violence can access support through the Office of Family Safety, which runs a 24/7 Family Safety Center on Murfreesboro Pike as well as the court-based Jean Crowe Advocacy Center, offering safety planning, order-of-protection assistance, and crisis counseling, according to the county agency.
Monday's incident follows other recent stabbings tied to arguments in the Nashville area. In June, three people were seriously injured in a stabbing outside a South Nashville establishment on Murfreesboro Pike after a physical argument escalated, WSMV 4 reported. Earlier this month, Metro Nashville police arrested a suspect after a roommate was stabbed and hospitalized following a weekend dispute at a South Nashville home, according to WKRN News 2's earlier coverage. Hoodline previously reported on that roommate stabbing case, which ended with a suspect held on a $50,000 bond.
No suspect information has been released in connection with the Donelson stabbing, and it remains unclear who started the argument or the current condition of the two seriously injured victims. Metro Nashville police have not said whether an arrest has been made.
