Early Era Collective is bringing a new dance work to Austin that treats the past and present less like separate chapters and more like bodies moving through the same room. The company will premiere Present Perspective Project in a three-night run at the Dougherty Arts Center this September.
The production runs September 3-5 at 8 p.m. and features longtime Early Era artists Daniel Broxton and Jairus Carr, according to CultureMap Austin. The evening-length collaborative show uses multiple viewpoints to explore what it means to live, witness and actively participate in the human experience.
Two Choreographic Perspectives Meet Onstage
Early Era describes the work as a fusion of post-modern and street-style choreography, with movement that shifts between emotional intensity, comic awkwardness, breath, recovery and reconstruction. The company's official project page frames the show as a journey from the past toward the present, shaped by Broxton and Carr's distinct artistic approaches.
That blend fits Early Era's broader identity as an Austin nonprofit dance company working across contemporary, hip-hop, tap and ballet traditions. The group says its mission is to create multiform art that brings diverse perspectives to diverse audiences, while also collaborating with filmmakers, spoken-word artists, actors and singers.
Dougherty Arts Center Hosts The September Premiere
The performance will take place at the Dougherty Arts Center, a longtime Austin arts hub that presents theater, music, dance, exhibitions and community programming. The City of Austin's Dougherty Arts Center says its theater includes 150 seats along with lighting, sound, dressing-room and concession facilities.
