A 44-year-old Toccoa woman was found dead inside her home Saturday, and Georgia investigators are working to determine how she died. Candice Lynn Smith was discovered by a family member, with an autopsy planned as the case remains active.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Smith’s body was taken to its medical examiner’s office for examination, according to WYFF 4. Authorities have not publicly released a cause or manner of death. According to the Georgia Department of Public Health's National Violent Death Reporting System web coding manual, the coroner or medical examiner determines a death's manner, which forms the basis for coding the official underlying cause of death in vital statistics data.
