Two very young girls were found alive inside a Wilkinsburg home Monday after emergency responders discovered the bodies of two adults who officials believe had been dead since Friday. The children, ages 1 and 3, were taken to a hospital before being placed in county care.
Wilkinsburg police responded to reports of two people dead inside a home on Franklin Avenue, where first responders found the bodies of 41-year-old Lamont Dunlap and 31-year-old Lamara Baldwin, according to WTAE. Authorities also found the two girls alive inside the residence after they had apparently remained there for several days.
Officials said there was no obvious sign of trauma to either Dunlap or Baldwin. The cause and manner of their deaths remain under investigation, a process that the Allegheny County medical examiner handles through scene investigation, autopsy work and forensic testing.
Children Released To Allegheny County Care
First responders took the girls to a hospital for evaluation, and they were later released to Allegheny County Children, Youth and Families, WTAE reported. Officials have not publicly released additional details about the children’s condition or described what happened inside the home before police arrived.
No arrests or charges were announced in the initial report. Investigators are still working to determine how the adults died and how long the girls remained in the home before help arrived.
