A new Tropical Smoothie Cafe is headed to Saline's east side, with the fast-casual chain planning to open a cafe at 7101 E. Michigan Avenue later in 2026. The site sits on the south side of E. Michigan Avenue near Moon Road, next door to a KinderCare center and across the street from Saline Chevrolet. No opening date has been announced yet for the location.
As reported by WhatNow, the new cafe will operate as a franchise, and the same franchisee reportedly appears to be behind the Saline opening. Nearby businesses in the immediate area include Mi Zarape and Brewed Awakenings Cafe, both located close to the future storefront. The lease for the Saline location was recently handled by Keystone Commercial Real Estate, per the outlet's reporting.
A Corridor Built for Growth
The 7101 E. Michigan Avenue site sits along a key commuter corridor on Saline's east side, near new residential subdivisions including Pulte Homes' Bella Terrace and Toll Brothers at Fosdick Glen. East Michigan Avenue serves as the primary arterial road connecting Saline to Ann Arbor and US-23, according to Pulte Homes. That positioning helps explain why a fast-casual chain would target the stretch as new subdivisions fill in around it.
The Saline store would also deepen Tropical Smoothie Cafe's presence in Washtenaw County, where the chain already operates at least four cafes in neighboring Ann Arbor, located on Liberty Street, Eisenhower Parkway, Washtenaw Avenue, and Jackson Road, according to the company's own location listings. Ann Arbor's downtown Liberty Street cafe originally opened near the University of Michigan campus. Statewide, Tropical Smoothie Cafe maintains around 120 operational franchise locations across Michigan as of mid-2026, per the same WhatNow report.
What's on the Menu
Tropical Smoothie Cafe's menu spans smoothies ranging from berry to avocado, alongside food items like acai bowls, wraps, and snack rolls. One signature option is the Peanut Paradise smoothie, blended with peanut butter and banana. Menus can vary by location, per the company's website.
That food-and-drink split reflects a broader company trend. While smoothies are ordered on roughly 85% of guest checks systemwide, food menu items account for about half of Tropical Smoothie Cafe's total revenue, according to Entrepreneur. The company introduced wraps and flatbreads to its menu back in 1999, broadening its appeal beyond breakfast smoothies to lunch and dinner traffic, after the brand's 1997 founding in Destin, Florida.
A Chain on a Growth Tear
The Saline expansion arrives amid a period of rapid national growth for Tropical Smoothie Cafe. The chain has grown to more than 1,700 nationwide locations and surpassed $1.5 billion in annual systemwide sales, posting 10% year-over-year sales growth in early 2026, per Entrepreneur's reporting. Loyalty program members reportedly visit three times more frequently than non-members and account for roughly a third of systemwide sales.
Much of that growth traces back to Blackstone's roughly $2 billion acquisition of the chain from Levine Leichtman Capital Partners in April 2024, a deal aimed at accelerating unit growth and menu innovation, according to Restaurant Dive. Under its prior private equity owner, the chain had already grown from 870 to more than 1,400 units nationwide. Multi-unit franchise operators have been central to the post-acquisition push, including SERVE Hospitality Group, which manages stores under Tropical Management Holdings and recently expanded its footprint to 31 Tropical Smoothie Cafe locations across Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin after adding nearby Adrian and Woodhaven cafes.
The Saline plan also fits a pattern Hoodline has tracked elsewhere as the chain fills in suburban corridors, including a new Texas retail-center opening and a Chicago-area expansion detailed in Hoodline's coverage of a retail boom hitting the city's Far South Side. For now, Saline residents will have to keep watching for signage, since neither a construction timeline nor a firm opening date has been made public for the E. Michigan Avenue site.
