LMPD confirmed shortly after the initial release that a second man was inside the truck's cab and pronounced dead at the scene, raising the death toll after crews spent time checking the mangled wreckage for a possible second occupant.
According to WDRB, LMPD officers were called just after 5 a.m. to the southbound Interstate 65 ramp to eastbound Interstate 264 after receiving reports of a single-vehicle crash involving the FedEx semi. The truck had been traveling northbound on the ramp toward I-264 East when it left the left shoulder, crossed into the southbound I-65 ramp, and struck the rock wall head-on. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the LMPD Traffic Unit is leading the investigation into what caused the crash.
The affected ramps were expected to remain closed for approximately two to three hours, and police encouraged motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while crews worked the scene.
