Nearly three years after 18-year-old Jeremiah Hurts was shot to death in Shively, two men have pleaded guilty in the case, with formal sentencing set for October. Jayden Alexander and Larry Bush, who were originally charged with murder, admitted to manslaughter, wanton endangerment and gun charges, and each is now facing a recommended 10-year prison sentence.
Hurts was shot in the back while trying to drive away from a suspected drug transaction, according to prosecutors, as reported by WLKY. He was found shot to death in the 4000 block of Valley View Drive near Crums Lane in Shively, Kentucky, in September 2023. According to WDRB, the shooting happened around 8 p.m. on September 27, 2023, off Dixie Highway near 7th Street Road.
Hurts was an active participant in the Louisville Select Youth Boxing team, according to Crime Solvers Central. After being shot inside his vehicle, he attempted to drive away before losing control and crashing into a nearby house. A resident and friend rushed outside to render first aid until emergency personnel arrived, but Hurts was pronounced dead at the scene despite those efforts, the outlet reports.

In the days after the shooting, the incident was described as posing no present threat to the broader neighborhood. The case remained under active homicide investigation by Shively police as detectives worked to identify those responsible.
