Five years after Navon Wingate was gunned down while returning home in Frankford, his family is still waiting for answers — and for someone to face the consequences. The 29-year-old was killed in broad daylight on a street where he lived with his grandmother, leaving behind an 8-year-old daughter and plans for a future that never arrived.
According to 6abc Philadelphia, Wingate was shot shortly before 2:30 p.m. on March 6, 2021, on the 2000 block of Anchor Street. He had been running errands for his grandmother and was heading back home; his family said he worked, kept to himself and hoped to open his own gym.
The Philadelphia Police Department’s unsolved-murders database identifies the case as DC 21-15-015778. Investigators found Wingate suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and he was taken to Frankford-Torresdale Hospital, where he died that afternoon.
Family Wants A Courtroom Reckoning
Wingate’s grandmother, Sharon Haughton, told 6abc that his daughter was only 8 when he was killed. She said she wants someone held accountable and hopes the family will eventually have a day in court.
The City of Philadelphia is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. 6abc Philadelphia reported that anonymous tips can be made at 215-546-TIPS, while the police department’s unsolved-case page lists 215-686-8477 for homicide information and provides an online tip form.
