Forty-three years after John Dlubala was found fatally shot in Dundalk, Baltimore County police are still asking whether someone knows what happened to the Sparrows Point High School graduate known as “Jeep.” The renewed appeal puts a long-unsolved killing back in front of the community where Dlubala lived and worked.
According to the Dundalk Eagle, emergency personnel were called to the 6900 block of German Hill Road at about 12:35 a.m. on Aug. 1, 1983. Dlubala, 60, was found on the back porch of a residence with several gunshot wounds to his torso and later died. Police said he had been at the Jay Cee Inn shortly before the shooting.
The Baltimore County Police Department’s Homicide Cold Case Squad is now seeking information that could help resolve the case. In an official overview of the unit, the department says its cold-case detectives review unsolved murders, pursue new tips and apply investigative technology as it becomes available.
Dlubala graduated from Sparrows Point High School, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked as a television repairman, according to the Dundalk Eagle. He also moved appliances and furniture around the area, and Baltimore County police described him as a very quiet, gentle person who was always helping others.

Investigators are asking people who knew Dlubala, were near the Jay Cee Inn or German Hill Road that night, or heard something about the shooting over the years to come forward. In a case this old, a memory that once seemed too ordinary to report could be the detail detectives have been missing.
