Two people were hospitalized after gunfire broke out during a fight at Woodward Reservoir Saturday evening, and the suspected shooter was taken into custody as deputies worked the scene. The Stanislaus County recreation area remained an active investigation site, with portions of the park potentially restricted.
Deputies responded around 7:40 p.m. to reports of a fight involving multiple people and were alerted that a firearm might be involved, according to CBS Sacramento. Investigators determined that two people had been shot, and both victims were taken to a local hospital; their conditions were not immediately known.
Woodward Reservoir is a regional park a few miles north of Oakdale, with more than 3,700 acres of land and 2,900 acres of water, according to Stanislaus County Parks and Recreation. The park offers camping, boat launches, picnic areas and swimming during the summer recreation season.
Suspect In Custody, Park Access Could Tighten
The suspected gunman was taken into custody, and deputies said there were no outstanding suspects. Law enforcement planned to remain at the reservoir as investigators processed the scene, while portions of the park could have restricted access, CBS Sacramento reported.
Authorities have not publicly released the victims' names, their conditions, the suspect's identity or a possible motive in the initial account. The investigation remains active.
