A head-on crash in York County killed the drivers of a Ford Mustang and a Kia Sorento Saturday afternoon, while six people riding in the Kia were hospitalized. Five of those passengers were juveniles, turning a stretch of North Paraham Road into the scene of a deadly collision.
The crash happened just before 3 p.m. Saturday near W.H. Stowe Road, according to WBTV. South Carolina Highway Patrol said the Mustang was traveling south when its driver lost control, crossed the center line and struck the northbound Kia head-on.
Both drivers died, troopers said. The six Kia passengers were taken to hospitals, but authorities had not immediately released details about the extent of their injuries.
York County Had 18 Traffic Deaths Before Saturday
Preliminary figures from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety counted 18 traffic deaths in York County through July 26, compared with 20 during the same period last year. Those figures were compiled before the North Paraham Road crash and may be revised as investigations continue.
Highway Patrol was still investigating Saturday night. No names or additional details about the victims had been released in the initial report.
