The shooting happened around 7:11 p.m. Saturday in the 3500 block of Bluegrass Park Drive, a residential street off Newburg Road, and no arrests have been made.
According to WLKY, officers found the boy suffering from a gunshot wound and rushed him to a hospital. Police say the LMPD Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation specifically because of the severity of his injuries.
