An 18-year-old man is dead after he was found unresponsive inside a corner store on the 800 block of Marcella Street in Philadelphia's Summerdale section, suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the head. The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. Monday, and investigators say roughly 26 shots were fired during the incident, with shell casings found inside and outside the store and gunfire striking at least two nearby homes.
According to 6abc Philadelphia, the teenager was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police have not identified him, and no arrests have been made. A corner-store employee told the outlet that the victim frequented the business to play games of skill, offering one of the only personal details available about him so far.
Shell Casings Scattered From the Store to the Street
Shell casings were found both inside and outside the store. At least one shell casing was found inside the store where the victim was located, while multiple others were recovered on the sidewalk and on the highway outside, according to the same report from 6abc Philadelphia. Investigators have not determined what led to the shooting.
The gunfire didn't stay contained to the store. Two occupied homes nearby were struck by bullets, though no injuries were reported inside either residence. Small said bullets went through the properties and through the second-floor front bedroom windows of both homes — a detail that underscores how close residents came to being hit during the approximately 26-shot barrage.
Stolen Car Found Crashed Nearby, Engine Still Running
Adding another unresolved thread to the investigation, police discovered a stolen vehicle that had crashed into an unoccupied parked car near the shooting scene. The vehicle's engine was still running when officers arrived, and its driver's-side front and rear doors were left open. Investigators have not said whether the crashed vehicle is connected to the shooting itself.

Not the First Gunfire on This Block
This is not the first time gunfire has struck the same stretch of Marcella Street. In 2018, police were called to the 800 block around 11:30 p.m. after reports of shots fired, and officers found a 16-year-old boy shot once in the lower back, according to an earlier 6abc report. That teenager was listed in stable condition at Einstein Medical Center, and no arrests were made in that case either. Monday's shooting marks a far deadlier chapter for the same block, with the investigation into the 18-year-old's death still in its earliest stages.
