A 21-year-old Vidor woman is dead after a car sped away from a large disturbance at the Salt Water Barrier in Beaumont early Saturday and slammed into a parked flatbed trailer. The front passenger, identified as Alyssa Messina, was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the driver was rushed to a Houston-area hospital in critical condition.
Beaumont Police responded to the 6700 block of Bigner just after 2 a.m. Saturday in reference to a large disturbance at the Salt Water Barrier, according to KOGT. As officers arrived, several vehicles were leaving the area at a high rate of speed. One of those vehicles failed to negotiate a curve and struck a parked flatbed trailer, setting off the deadly crash.
Victim Identified as Vidor Resident
Messina, who lived in Vidor, was riding in the front passenger seat when the crash occurred. She was pronounced dead at the scene, the outlet's report states. The driver survived the initial impact but was transported to a hospital in the Houston area in critical condition, and no update on that person's condition has been released.
Beaumont Police have not identified the driver or said whether the disturbance played any role in why the vehicles sped off, and the exact cause of the crash has not been determined. The investigation into the fatality crash remains ongoing, and no additional details about the disturbance or the other vehicles involved have been made public.
Another Recent Fatal Crash in Beaumont
The Bigner Road crash comes about a month after another fatal crash rattled the city. In mid-August, Beaumont police searched for a driver in a fatal hit-and-run that killed 38-year-old Justin Balka in the 2900 block of Washington Boulevard, between 4th and 5th Street, according to KFDM. Police said the driver in that case failed to stop and left the scene following the collision.
No arrests or charges have been announced in connection with Saturday's crash on Bigner. Beaumont Police continue to investigate, and Hoodline will update this story as more information becomes available.
