Nassau County police responding to a 911 call for an aided person at about 4:05 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, found Tadeo Alvarado-Chavez near 979 Nassau Road in Uniondale. A police medic pronounced the 40-year-old Roosevelt resident dead at the scene, according to Daily Voice and Patch.
Murder charge and arraignment
Police charged Jorge Alexander Huezo Villatoro, 35, who is from El Salvador, with second-degree murder in Alvarado-Chavez's death, Patch reported. Villatoro was arraigned Friday in Hempstead, pleaded not guilty and was remanded, according to ABC7 New York. He could face 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
Prosecutors describe bar dispute
ABC7 reported that prosecutors link the death to an altercation at Frontera Bar in Uniondale around 2 a.m. Prosecutors allege that Alvarado-Chavez left the bar after being punched, later returned with a machete and was followed to the rear of the strip mall by Villatoro, who had obtained another machete. They allege Villatoro struck him after the two left the bar.
