A 61-year-old was shot in broad daylight Friday morning on Milwaukee's North Side, struck by gunfire just before noon on the 2400 block of N. Holton St. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and police say the circumstances that led up to the shooting remain under investigation.
According to a press release submitted to Urban Milwaukee, the shooting happened at approximately 11:24 a.m. Friday. Milwaukee police are now searching for an unknown suspect or suspects and have not released details about what led to the gunfire. Friday's shooting adds another incident on North Holton Street. North Holton Street runs as a key commercial corridor separating the Harambee neighborhood to the west from Riverwest to the east, according to neighborhood historical records. Two months earlier, on July 27, a 57-year-old was killed near Locust and Holton streets in a fatal shooting reported by WTMJ.
Friday's shooting was a daytime, non-fatal incident. Milwaukee recorded a 30 percent drop in homicides during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year, per Milwaukee Police Department data reported by CBS 58. CBS 58 reported department leadership's view that minor disputes frequently trigger non-fatal gunfire involving uncooperative witnesses.
Wisconsin's Gunshot-Injury Reporting Requirement
Under Wisconsin Statute § 255.40, healthcare professionals who treat gunshot victims are required to report the patient's identity and injury details to local police as soon as possible. Providers who make such reports in good faith receive legal immunity.
No arrests have been announced in Friday's shooting, and investigators continue to rely on tips from the public to move the case forward.
