San Antonio is waking up to muggy air and temperatures near 80 degrees, with a hot and mostly sunny weekend waiting just ahead. Friday will reach about 96 degrees, and the heat only builds from there as scattered storms remain possible during the afternoon.
Friday Storms Could Bring Brief Downpours
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives after 1 p.m. Friday, with the best odds during the afternoon and early evening. The National Weather Service says a few stronger downpours could drop an inch or two quickly in isolated spots, leading to ponding on roads or minor flooding.
For most of San Antonio, though, the bigger story will be heat. Friday’s high is expected near 96 degrees, with a heat index as high as 102, while east-southeast winds stay around 5 to 10 mph.
Saturday And Sunday Turn Hotter
Saturday will be partly sunny and hotter, reaching about 98 degrees with a heat index near 105. Sunday brings a similar setup, with mostly sunny skies, a high near 98 and only a slight chance of an afternoon storm.
Labor Day looks mostly sunny and hot, also topping out near 98 degrees. Overnight lows will offer limited relief, dipping only into the upper 70s through the weekend and into next week.
Heat Hangs On Through Next Week
The hot pattern continues Tuesday through Thursday, with sunny or mostly sunny skies and highs around 97 degrees each day. Rain chances remain low in San Antonio, although moisture could still support isolated showers and storms mainly east of the Interstate 35 corridor.
Anyone spending long stretches outdoors should plan around the afternoon peak, drink plenty of water and take breaks in air conditioning. The City of San Antonio recommends using air-conditioned public spaces, including libraries and community centers, when the heat becomes difficult to manage.
