A 37-year-old woman was struck by her own Honda CR-V after two masked men allegedly stole it right in front of her on Allerton Avenue Sunday evening, leaving her with minor leg injuries she declined to have treated. Police are now searching for the pair, who fled with the dark gray SUV, valued at around $10,000, after she tried to stop them from driving away.
Car Left Running Outside a Store
The incident happened around 5 p.m. Sunday at 674 Allerton Ave., according to News 12 Bronx. The woman had left her dark gray Honda CR-V running in front of a store when she noticed two people sitting in a dark vehicle parked in front of her car. One of them got out, climbed into her CR-V, and drove off with it.
When the woman tried to stop the theft, the two men hit her with her own vehicle as they made their escape, the outlet reports. She suffered minor injuries to her legs but turned down medical attention at the scene. Investigators told the station the stolen Honda is worth around $10,000.
Two Masked Suspects Still at Large
Both alleged thieves are described as male. One was last seen wearing a black mask, while the other wore a white mask, per the same report. No further description of the suspects has been released, and it remains unclear whether either man has been identified.
Police are urging anyone with information to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). No further updates on the search have been made public.
Part of a Broader Pattern Targeting the SUV
The Allerton theft comes amid a documented rise in car theft across the Bronx. Bronx auto thefts were up 8.1 percent year-to-date to 1,531 as of May 2025, and jumped 19.1 percent to 386 during the 28-day period ending that same month, according to Norwood News. That same reporting noted eight men, seven of them Bronx residents, were charged in a $6.6 million New Jersey luxury-car theft operation announced last spring.
The Honda CR-V in particular has become a frequent target. The model was named the most stolen car in New York, based on a FinanceBuzz review of National Insurance Crime Bureau data cited by the Utica Observer Dispatch. More than 850,000 vehicles were stolen nationwide in 2024, the outlet reported, and White Plains Public Safety has said 2024 and 2025 CR-V models were being targeted in commuter lots, with thieves possibly using a reprogramming tool to create new key fobs.
The Riverdale Press has separately chronicled a string of Honda CR-V thefts and part-strippings closer to the Allerton incident. In one case, a 2018 CR-V parked near Henry Hudson Parkway and West 231st Street was reported stolen after its owner returned the next morning. In another, thieves stripped the tires and wheels off a 2018 CR-V, a loss police valued at $2,500, while a 2021 CR-V on Fieldston Road lost its tires and rims in a theft valued at $1,400. A 2018 CR-V taken from Sedgwick Avenue was reportedly worth $27,000, the paper noted, as one after another CR-V has turned up stolen across the borough.
Despite the frequency of these thefts, AAA data cited by the Utica Observer Dispatch suggests roughly 80 percent of stolen vehicles are recovered within the first two days. Whether that holds true for the Allerton case remains to be seen, as investigators continue looking for the two masked men caught on the run with the woman's SUV.
