A Montgomery County jury convicted Anderson Danilo Luna-Mazate, 20, of the 2100 block of Lincoln Drive, of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse by force, indecent assault by force, simple assault by physical menace and possession of a concealed weapon. He was sentenced to 6½ to 13 years in a state correctional institution, followed by three consecutive years of probation, for a total of 16 years of court supervision, according to The Mercury.
What the jury decided
The charges arose from a July 2025 encounter at the Wissahickon Waterfowl Preserve in Ambler. The Mercury reported that Luna-Mazate and the woman met through Instagram and later went to her vehicle near the preserve. Prosecutors alleged that he continued unwanted sexual contact, displayed a firearm and forced her to perform a sex act. The woman told a friend soon afterward and reported the incident to Ambler police on July 30, the outlet reported.
About the preserve
According to Wissahickon Trails, the Wissahickon Waterfowl Preserve is an 18-acre preserve near Wissahickon Creek owned and maintained by the Wissahickon Waterfowl Preserve, a nonprofit subsidiary of Wissahickon Trails. It is open daily from sunrise to sunset and includes a walking path and bird habitat.
Luna-Mazate testified that the sexual contact was consensual and denied having a weapon. The jury rejected his account and convicted him of possessing a firearm during the assault. Jurors also heard about Instagram photographs showing him with guns; according to The Mercury, he testified that the guns were fake and that he used the images to attract followers.
Sentence and supervision
Judge Wendy G. Rothstein imposed a sentence below the seven- to 14-year term sought by prosecutor Margot S. Weitz, who argued that Luna-Mazate posed a danger to the community. Defense attorney Cary Hall had requested no more than five years and cited Luna-Mazate's lack of prior criminal history, according to The Mercury. Rothstein recommended sex-offender supervision and ordered that he have no contact with the victim.
The Pennsylvania Sexual Offenders Assessment Board determined that Luna-Mazate did not meet the criteria for classification as a sexually violent predator, The Mercury reported. He must nevertheless report his address to Pennsylvania State Police for life. The Pennsylvania State Police says a conviction for involuntary deviate sexual intercourse is a Tier III offense requiring lifetime registration and quarterly in-person reporting under the state's registry system: Megan's Law.
Investigation and custody
Ambler police said the investigation lasted several months before the U.S. Marshals Service apprehended Luna-Mazate in Union County, New Jersey. He was extradited to Montgomery County, according to the Ambler Borough Police Department. Patch reported that he was convicted in June 2026 and remained at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after his bail was revoked while he awaited sentencing.
