AnMed Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Anderson increased its capacity by 16 beds when a new unit opened Sept. 24. The more than 11,000-square-foot addition brings the facility’s total from 60 beds to 76 and includes two day rooms for families and a nurses’ station in the expanded wing.
The project was announced in February. An Encompass Health announcement said the plans included 16 private rooms and a four-chair dialysis suite, intended to let patients receive dialysis at the rehabilitation hospital during their stay. The opening of the rooms has been reported by Greenville Journal. The dialysis suite’s current status has not been confirmed.
Services Across the Region
At 1 Springback Way in Anderson, the hospital serves patients from Oconee, Pickens and Anderson counties. It opened in 2003 as a joint venture between AnMed Health and Encompass Health. Its rehabilitation services include care for people recovering from strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, orthopedic surgery and complex neurological conditions.
What inpatient rehabilitation involves
According to Medicare.gov, inpatient rehabilitation is for people recovering from serious surgery, illness or injury who need intensive therapy, physician supervision and coordinated care from doctors and other health care providers, including therapists.
In the Greenville Journal’s account, hospital CEO Heath Watson said the added capacity would help the facility care for more patients working to regain everyday abilities through rehabilitation.
A Regional Capacity Increase
The additional beds expand the hospital’s capacity in Anderson, within a service area that spans three counties.
