A 28-year-old Angels Camp woman was arrested after police said she stabbed her boyfriend during a domestic disturbance, left him at a hospital and drove to Sacramento with their child in his car. Kayla Leah Skye Overby was arrested on four reported felony allegations. FOX40 and myMotherLode.com reported the arrest and investigation.
The investigation began early Sept. 22, when police were notified that a man had arrived with multiple stab wounds at Mark Twain Medical Center in San Andreas, according to myMotherLode.com. The victim initially told deputies he had been attacked by an unknown man on South Main Street. Police said they found no evidence of a crime at that location and that witness accounts did not fit his description. Investigators later determined the stabbing took place at a residence on Depot Road; they said the victim had withheld the truth because he feared the woman who allegedly stabbed him.
Police said license-plate-reader data helped investigators piece together a timeline; surveillance video, witness statements and evidence found at the Depot Road residence also helped them investigate the conflicting accounts. A knife believed to have been used in the stabbing was recovered, myMotherLode.com reported. The victim was transferred to San Joaquin General Hospital for further treatment.

Investigators believed Overby might be staying at a Sacramento home on 24th Street, where officers found the car, according to FOX40. Police located her at another home on Meadowview Road on Sept. 25. She surrendered after officers contacted her by phone and returned to Angels Camp for an interview, the report said.
Police arrested Overby on reported felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, child endangerment and car theft. FOX40 reported that bail was set at $145,000 and that the child was released to Calaveras County Child Protective Services.
