AnMed has announced plans to build a 44-acre health care campus on Clemson Boulevard near Interstate 85's Exit 19, a project set to bring around-the-clock emergency care and additional medical office space to Pendleton and Anderson County by 2028.
The health system unveiled the project as part of what CEO William Kenley described as a long-running strategy. “This project is the next phase of a growth plan we've been thoughtfully executing for several years,” Kenley said, according to WSPA. The Clemson Boulevard site is one piece of what Greenville Business Magazine describes as AnMed's push to expand its network of integrated, on-demand health care services.
It's the latest move in an expansion push that spans Anderson, Pickens, and Oconee counties, the station's report notes. Kenley put it simply: AnMed is growing alongside the communities it serves.
A Second Major Build-Out Already Underway Near Clemson
While the Clemson Boulevard site works its way toward a 2028 opening, AnMed is further along on a separate, already-under-construction project: AnMed Central/Clemson, located near the intersection of U.S. Highway 123 and 18 Mile Road. That $105 million facility is projected to open in spring 2027, according to AnMed, and is expected to give Clemson and Central residents their only 24/7 emergency room.
The Central/Clemson campus will cover roughly 150,000 square feet of patient-care space, per the same organization's announcement, and will house primary care and specialty physician offices, physical therapy, and lab and imaging services including X-ray, CT and ultrasound. AnMed broke ground on the project on August 19, 2025, and expects to create at least 50 high-paying jobs once the doors open.
Construction Review Online reports that Kenley framed the Central/Clemson project as a direct response to fast growth in Central, Clemson, and around Clemson University, adding that the new campus will not replace AnMed's existing location on Tiger Boulevard. The Post and Courier reports AnMed expects to hire around 150 employees at the site altogether, including the 50 high-paying positions, and that the Tiger Boulevard campus will keep operating after the new facility opens.
Closing a 20-Minute Gap to the Nearest ER
Until AnMed Central/Clemson opens, the nearest emergency department is about a 20-minute drive without traffic, according to AnMed's own campus-update page. The Post and Courier's account of the groundbreaking similarly put the nearest ER at roughly 14 miles away, with drive times around 20 minutes when traffic cooperates — underscoring the gap the new campus is meant to close.
The newspaper also reported that the new building will be three times larger than AnMed's ambulatory campus at Piedmont, which opened near Interstate 85 Exit 35 in 2025, and that about 25 percent of the Central/Clemson building will be reserved as shell space for future growth.
Windsor Place and Seneca Offices Add to the Footprint
AnMed is also redeveloping the former Windsor Place shopping center on East Greenville Street in Anderson, with specialty and outpatient services slated to begin later in 2026. AnMed's Windsor Place page states that the site, at 1520 E. Greenville St., will expand access to orthopedics, sports medicine, ear, nose and throat care, and occupational medicine, along with integrated therapy and advanced outpatient imaging — transforming a long-standing retail property into a modern medical office destination near downtown Anderson.
The Windsor Place project will also allow AnMed to expand heart and vascular care at its 100 Healthy Way location, according to WSPA's report on the announcement. Separately, new AnMed offices at 119 Bilo Place in Seneca are also expected to open later in 2026, expanding access to primary care, pediatrics, urgent care, and physical therapy and rehabilitation.
Taken together, the Clemson Boulevard campus, the Central/Clemson emergency facility, the Windsor Place redevelopment, and the Seneca offices mark a broad build-out for a health system that has provided care in the region for more than a century. AnMed has not detailed a construction timeline for the Clemson Boulevard site beyond its expected 2028 opening.
