According to WJXT News4JAX, District 4 patrol officers were notified of the shooting through both a 911 call and an automated ShotSpotter alert on the afternoon of Sunday, September 20. Officers arrived to find two men with significant injuries; both were rushed to separate hospitals, and one was later pronounced dead. The other man underwent surgery and was reported in stable condition. JSO says investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a verbal argument, though the department has not detailed what the dispute was about.

JSO reported no ongoing threat to the public following the shooting, and a notification to the deceased man's family was still pending as of the department's statement.
