A 31-year-old Arlington woman is facing multiple charges after police say she smashed her way into an occupied Cherrydale home late Thursday night, where a male resident saw her exposing herself before she bolted upstairs and officers tracked her down inside the house.
According to ARLnow, police received a 911 call just before 11 p.m. reporting that a woman wearing nothing but a bra and underwear had shattered the back door of a house. The report came in from the 4000 block of 23rd Street N., with officers dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:58 p.m. on Sept. 17, according to arlingtoncrime.com.
Police said the woman, identified as Katherine Claffey of Arlington, forced her way into the residence by throwing a rock through a glass door, per the same account. Once inside, she reportedly made her way to the top floor of the house.
Family Sheltered Inside as Intruder Ran to Another Room
The home was occupied at the time by a man who was sheltering inside with his wife and child, ARLnow reports. The male resident told officers the suspect exposed herself before running to another room, according to Yahoo News. He then called police, and responding Arlington County officers found evidence of a break-in before locating the suspect inside the home and taking her into custody.
Arlington County police classified the incident as a burglary in their crime report, and Claffey now faces charges of burglary, missile into an occupied dwelling, destruction of property and indecent exposure, the arlingtoncrime.com account notes.
Suspect Also Wanted in Separate Sept. 15 Incident
Beyond Thursday's break-in, Claffey was also wanted on outstanding warrants tied to a separate case from two days earlier. Yahoo News reports that Claffey was wanted on warrants obtained by the Arlington County Police Department and the Arlington County Fire Marshal's Office stemming from that Sept. 15 incident.
Investigators said Claffey entered the lobby of a residential building, damaged furniture, and pulled a fire alarm before fleeing, according to the same Yahoo News report. She was served with those outstanding warrants at the time of her arrest and was held without bond, per arlingtoncrime.com.
