A 47-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint just after midnight Tuesday outside an apartment building on Wexford Terrace in Jamaica Estates, with two unidentified suspects making off with his wallet, phone and backpack before disappearing on foot. The NYPD is now asking the public for help identifying the pair.
According to NYPD Crime Stoppers
, the robbery happened around 12:15 a.m. in front of 175-20 Wexford Terrace, within the confines of the 107th Precinct. The two individuals approached the victim and demanded his property, then displayed a black firearm before taking his wallet, phone and backpack and fleeing the scene on foot toward parts unknown, per the post.
The address is listed as 175-20 Wexford Terrace, though it remains unknown whether surveillance footage from the building or nearby businesses captured the suspects' direction of travel.
A Legal Escalation Tied to the Firearm
Displaying what appears to be a firearm during a robbery elevates the charge to Robbery in the First Degree under New York Penal Law ยง 160.15, a Class B violent felony, per FindLaw. That classification carries substantial mandatory prison time in New York State if the suspects are eventually identified and charged; the post did not provide an arrest update.
The 107th Precinct, which also covers Fresh Meadows, Cunningham Heights and Hilltop Village, is headquartered at 71-01 Parsons Boulevard in Flushing, according to the NYC Police Department. The NYPD page identifies Captain Michael Black-Larkins as the precinct's commanding officer.
Recent Incidents Have Rattled a Quiet Enclave
Jamaica Estates is a residential neighborhood in central Queens, while recent crime figures for the 107th Precinct were not verified for this report.
Still, the neighborhood has been the subject of recent local reporting. Local elected officials, including Council Member James F. Gennaro, have discussed an attempted robbery in Jamaica Estates. In July, the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force investigated the vandalism of a local Orthodox synagogue on streets surrounding Wexford Terrace, a case Hoodline previously covered.
It is not known whether investigators suspect any connection between Tuesday's robbery and other recent street crimes in central Queens.
