At least four dogs were killed in a fire at a home in Geneva Monday morning. Firefighters were called to the scene around 10 a.m. and found half the house already engulfed in flames.
Firefighters ultimately extinguished the fire. No other injuries were reported.

Geneva is an unincorporated stretch of eastern Seminole County marked by long driveways, large rural parcels, and a notable lack of municipal fire hydrants — conditions that routinely complicate structure fire response. Because there's no hydrant network to draw from, crews responding to fires along corridors like Snow Hill Road often have to bring their own water supply via tanker trucks, a logistical hurdle documented in past Seminole County Fire Department incidents in the area.
Seminole County Fire Department overall operates 21 stations countywide, holds an ISO Class 1 rating, and responds to more than 50,000 emergency incidents a year serving nearly 500,000 residents, according to Fire Apparatus & Emergency Equipment.

Seminole County Fire Department has also reported a separate early-morning residential fire in Geneva, with responders from Seminole County, Oviedo and Sanford.
The loss of the dogs in Monday's fire underscores the risks that home fires pose to pets.

Common Causes of Residential Fires
The available figures are national, not Florida-specific: a U.S. Fire Administration report covering 2006-2015 found cooking was the leading cause of residential building fires, accounting for 51 percent, while heating caused another 11 percent. The percentages were adjusted to account for fires with unknown causes, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.
Seminole County Fire Department crews also carry specialized, reusable pet oxygen masks — donated by community organizations and shaped to fit both small and large animal snouts — according to FOX 35 Orlando. Animal welfare groups including the American Kennel Club recommend that pet owners place window static-cling decals noting the number and type of animals inside a home, giving firefighters critical seconds to locate pets when scanning a burning structure.
Pet safety and a separate Seminole County fire
The American Red Cross advises including pets in household escape plans, but says people should never delay an escape or endanger themselves or family members to rescue a pet, according to its pet fire-safety guidance. In a separate incident reported June 8, 2025, the Orlando Sentinel reported that a fire in sheds at 2610 Ohio Ave. killed nine dogs. That incident involved sheds, not the Geneva home.
Snow Hill Road also runs adjacent to the Little Big Econ State Forest, where agencies routinely conduct controlled prescribed burns to manage wildlife areas and reduce wildfire risk, according to WFTV. Heavy smoke reports along the corridor are sometimes tied to that burn management, though no such connection has been made regarding Monday's fire.
