Avli Milwaukee will host a Greek wine tasting from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 17 at its Brewers Hill restaurant, 1818 N. Hubbard St. The restaurant’s event information lists 15 wines, three tasting stations staffed by wine experts, passed hors d’oeuvres and patio seating with skyline views. Tickets cost $60 per person, plus tax and a 20% gratuity, and cover the wine samples and food. Details are posted by Avli.
What will be poured
The selection is expected to include white, rosé, red and dessert wines. Among the bottles identified in Lori Fredrich’s OnMilwaukee report are Samos Muscat, Kouros Patras, Kourtaki Retsina, Oenotria Land, Boutari Kretikos in white and red, and Ploes rosé. The report also names producers including Domaine Costa Lazaridi, Boutari and Kourtaki.
The event takes the name Oenorama from Greece’s wine exhibition. The Milwaukee tasting is a restaurant event rather than the Athens trade show; the connection is limited to the shared name.
The Brewers Hill setting
Avli opened at the Brewers Hill address on Sept. 20, 2023, as the Chicago-based group’s first location outside Illinois after operating five restaurants in the Chicago area, according to Urban Milwaukee. Founder Louie Alexakis brought the concept from Winnetka to Milwaukee, and the property’s former restaurant, View MKE, closed in late 2020, The National Herald and Urban Milwaukee reported.
Attendees will be able to buy featured wines to take home, with incentives available for six- and 12-bottle orders, according to Avli.
