A 28-year-old Baltimore man is being held without bail after being charged in connection with a shooting outside a motel in Woodlawn early Saturday morning. Police say the attack, which left a victim wounded, appears to have been a random encounter between two strangers.
Clayton Thomas Jr., of the 5300 block of Leith Road, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and related charges, according to wbaltv.com. He is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center as the case moves forward.
Officers responded just before 5 a.m. Saturday to the Knights Inn in the 6700 block of Security Boulevard for a report of shots fired, per the same report. There, investigators say Thomas approached the victim, produced a handgun, said something officers could not understand, and fired a single shot.
A Separate Hotel Shooting in 2026
A separate WBAL News Radio report dated September 29, 2026, said Baltimore County police reported that a woman was shot at a Woodlawn hotel and sent to the hospital for treatment; her condition had not been released. The WBAL-TV report about the June 11, 2016, Knights Inn shooting said officers found a 32-year-old man who had been shot once in the upper body. He was taken to an area hospital, treated and released.
Suspect Found Inside the Motel
After the shooting, police said Thomas was located in a room at the Knights Inn and taken into custody, per the same account. Baltimore County police have said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
A Later Fatal Shooting on the Same Block
A later fatal shooting occurred on that stretch of Security Boulevard. On June 1, 2023, Baltimore County officers arrived at the 6700 block around 10:30 p.m. after a report of an unconscious man in a parking lot, as detailed by wbaltv.com. They found 54-year-old Frank Eubanks Jr. suffering from an apparent gunshot wound; he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
