A 52-year-old man doing work on his porch in Bayside, Queens was stabbed in the head by a stranger following a traffic dispute, and the woman accused of attacking him remains at large. The victim needed three stitches to close a deep laceration but is expected to be okay.
According to CBS News New York, the trouble began when the unidentified suspect parked her car along 53rd Avenue in a spot that obstructed traffic, prompting other drivers to lean on their horns. Rather than clear the road, the woman reportedly drove only a couple of feet before stopping again — this time right outside the victim's home. She then approached him and asked, “What are you looking at?” before stabbing him for no stated reason and fleeing the scene in a red sedan, the outlet reports.
The victim's wife told the station she saw blood around her husband's head and shirt after the attack. “I don't want this to happen to anybody,” she said, adding that she now feels unsafe and wants the suspect off the streets.
A Neighborhood Known for Its Quiet Streets
The attack unfolded in a part of Queens not accustomed to this kind of violence. NYPD precinct statistics consistently position Bayside and the 111th Precinct among the safest residential areas in the borough, a reputation tied to the neighborhood's largely single-family, detached-home blocks, according to Building Security Services. The precinct, headquartered at 45-06 215th Street, also covers Douglaston, Little Neck, Auburndale, Hollis Hills and Fresh Meadows.
That reputation has taken a hit this year. The September stabbing follows other violent street incidents in Bayside during the summer, including an August 28 moped-borne double stabbing near 201st Street and a July 22 stabbing of an off-duty police officer on Bell Boulevard.
Traffic Trouble Near Bay Terrace
Traffic-related trouble also drew attention near Bayside's Bay Terrace Shopping Center. QNS reported a police response there just after midnight on September 12 amid a street takeover.
The Bayside dispute escalated outside the victim's home.
