Bella Maiya Day Spa has reopened at 100 S. Highland Ave., Suite A, in Ossining, returning owner Kiara Miller-Picucci’s business to a community that supported its early development. The spa had operated for 13 years at 1326 Pleasantville Rd. in Briarcliff Manor before a fire destroyed the former location.

Daily Voice reported that the spa resumed operations two and a half weeks after the fire. Miller-Picucci founded the business in late 2013, two weeks after the birth of her second child, and built it from an empty space without an existing client list, according to River Journal Online.

The Ossining address also reconnects the business with an earlier source of support. Miller-Picucci previously credited Dr. Gayle Marchica, president of the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce, with mentorship and networking help while she was starting the spa, River Journal Online reported.

Ossining planning context

The New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative Strategic Investment Plan says the forthcoming Route 9 Road Diet is intended to create a more walkable and bikeable connection between Ossining’s Main Street corridor and other areas of the village, according to the plan.

The loss at the former location

The fire began shortly after 5:30 a.m. on July 29 at the Pleasantville Road building. No firefighters or civilians were injured, but the spa’s interior was left a total loss, according to Daily Voice.

The incident became a second-alarm fire as crews dealt with hidden fire in the structure, heavy rain, high humidity, intense heat, and poor visibility. Fire departments from across Westchester provided mutual aid, according to 1st Responder News.

Services continue at the Ossining site

Daily Voice reported that Miller-Picucci said the fire would not end the business. After locating and preparing the Ossining space, she and her team resumed serving clients. Bella Maiya offers massage therapy, facials, and spa parties for all ages, according to Daily Voice.

The spa plans to hold a grand reopening on Oct. 3 at 3 p.m., featuring raffles, giveaways, and specials on future appointments. The business described the event as a thank-you to those who helped after the fire, Daily Voice reported.
