A pediatric behavioral health provider has opened a new clinic at 1500 Oxford Drive in Bethel Park, offering therapy, medication management, autism assessments, and other evaluations for patients ranging from young children to adults in their mid-twenties. The clinic marks Blackbird Health's return to the Pittsburgh region and its 11th location across Pennsylvania.
Blackbird Health is expanding into the Pittsburgh region as part of a broader push into western Pennsylvania, according to WPXI, whose report was written by Pittsburgh Business Times reporter Paul J. Gough. Tom Peterson, the company's CEO, has said Blackbird plans to become a trusted partner to families, pediatricians, schools, therapists and other organizations supporting children throughout the region, per the same report. The Bethel Park site joins Blackbird's existing footprint of clinics in eastern Pennsylvania communities including Bala Cynwyd, Doylestown, Exton, Fort Washington and Lancaster, along with other operations in the mid-Atlantic, according to Blackbird Health.
The company was originally founded in 2014 as a single clinic before relaunching as a tech-enabled network, and it raised $17 million in Series A funding in February 2024 led by Define Ventures, bringing its total institutional funding to nearly $23 million, according to a release distributed via PR Newswire. That funding round was also backed by Frist Cressey Ventures and GreyMatter. Blackbird operates as an in-network provider with major commercial insurance carriers and employers, a structural detail that matters in a field where many private pediatric behavioral practices operate cash-only.
A Statewide Network Built Mostly Online
Blackbird's statewide network of clinicians and services leans heavily on virtual care, with roughly 75% of its overall clinical services delivered remotely, according to industry analysis from Startup Intros. Physical locations like Bethel Park are used primarily for comprehensive initial evaluations and specialized diagnostic testing, while ongoing therapy sessions often continue online, letting families tap into clinical specialists without the constraints of geography. Clinical listings from Psychology Today indicate the company employs more than 170 clinicians, including child psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners and clinical social workers, and reports that 85% of patients experience symptom improvement within 6 to 12 weeks.
The Bethel Park clinic's services span attention deficit disorder assessments, autism assessments, coaching, evaluations, medication management and therapy for children through young adults. That range of offerings lands in a county where the need has been documented in stark terms: a September 2024 study by Allies for Children found that more than 1 in 3 surveyed high school teenagers in Allegheny County reported experiencing depression, and 1 in 4 had engaged in self-harm. The report surveyed over 75 regional educators and community leaders. National figures cited in the same study show that 1 in 6 U.S. children aged 2 to 8 has a diagnosed mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder, while ADHD affects roughly 10% of children nationwide.
Competition Builds in the South Hills
Blackbird is not the only major player betting on pediatric behavioral health demand in Pittsburgh's southern suburbs. UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh announced in August a $10 million expansion of pediatric behavioral health and developmental services at its UPMC Children's South campus in nearby South Fayette Township, a project Hoodline previously reported is set for completion by mid-2027. UPMC Children's South also opened a walk-in pediatric behavioral health clinic at that location in November 2025, according to 90.5 WESA.
Bethel Park's Oxford Drive corridor has become something of a magnet for new service-oriented businesses this year. Blackbird's new address at 1500 Oxford Drive sits near 1700 Oxford Drive, where electric vehicle maker Rivian opened its first southwestern Pennsylvania service hub in May by converting a former Bed Bath & Beyond space, as Hoodline reported at the time.
Timing Amid a Shifting School Calendar
The clinic's opening also lands amid changes in the local school landscape. The Bethel Park School District pushed back its 2026 school start date to September 3 to finish consolidating five former elementary schools into a single new K-5 elementary center, according to Hoodline's earlier coverage. Blackbird has said it explicitly targets partnerships with regional school districts and teachers, positioning the Bethel Park clinic as a resource for families navigating both mental health needs and a shifting educational environment this fall.
