A 24-year-old Bethesda, Maryland, man faces charges after police say bottles thrown from a residential balcony struck an occupied car in Arlington and shattered its rear windshield. 7News (WJLA) reports that no one was injured.
Arlington County police responded to a disorderly conduct report at about 10:26 p.m. on Saturday in the 3100 block of 10th Street North, according to WJLA. Officers say the car was parked and someone was inside when the bottles were thrown.
Windshield Shatters, but No One Hurt
The rear windshield shattered. Police arrested Sullivan at the scene and reported no injuries to the person in the car or anyone else nearby, WJLA reported.
WJLA identified the man as Peter Sullivan, 24, of Bethesda, Maryland. The outlet's account does not say what led to the alleged bottle-throwing or identify the car's owner or the person inside.
Multiple Charges Filed
Patch reports that Sullivan is charged with missile into an occupied vehicle, misdemeanor and felony destruction of property, and two counts of reckless endangerment tied to throwing objects from a high place.
What the Virginia Law Says
Virginia Code § 18.2-154 classifies maliciously throwing a missile at an occupied motor vehicle as a Class 4 felony when the act may put a person's life in peril, according to the Code of Virginia. The statute also distinguishes unlawful acts committed without malice.
